Ivee

Client

Based in San Franciso, Ivee is a Wi-Fi voice-activated hardware assistant that can answer questions, respond to commands, and connect to many smart home devices. It is a predecessor of Amazon Alexa.

Challenge

Ivee approached DevTeam.Space with the task of undertaking major updates to their application’s backend, hardware device firmware, server infrastructure, and mobile app design and connectivity. The client requested the design phase, code review, and support from a dedicated tech account manager.

Solution

The overall goal was to implement necessary updates to stabilize the connectivity between the mobile app and the hardware device, revamp the firmware, backend, AWS and Windows Azure servers to ensure a smoother customer experience. DevTeam.Space’s team started with the design phase, during which the mobile app’s missing screens were designed, AWS/Windows Azure servers and the backend code were diagnosed, and the coding phase plan was prepared.

After the client approved the design phase results, we started the coding phase. During the coding phase, our backend developers refactored the API, set up AWS and Azure, implemented continuous integration and the message brokerage with RabbitMQ, and fixed the firmware networking issues.

Results

As a result of this major update, the mobile app started working correctly with no device connectivity downtime. Both AWS and Azure servers were reconfigured. A few months after this update, the company was successfully acquired.
